Welcome to the Cottage Hill Christian Academy's Track and Field homepage!

We are beginning our fourth year in the AHSAA and our second year at 1A-2A.  Our varsity program ranges in grades of 7th grade through 12th; from beginners to multiple season performers.  We have meets for the middle school level, JV level, and Varsity level.  Each year, we look to continue to build upon each season as we put an emphasis on each athlete doing his/her best, giving 100% effort, and encouraging one another not just in our sport, but also in life. Our athletes not only train to become stronger/faster, but learn how and why the training he/she does develops him/her into a stronger competitor.

What did the team accomplish in 2011?

Our Girl's Team:
With a majority of our girls new to the team and inexperienced in track and field, we accomplished many new feats in our program that we hope to continue over the years.  Despite the fact of a young and inexperienced team, this girl's team set many new school records and recorded school records for the first time in the high jump and triple jump, having success in our division.  With our first year in 2A, we competed in a new section.  Our girl's finished 2nd overall, besting our rivals Mobile Christian.  At the 2A State Meet, our girls finished 5th overall, our highest finish in team history and highest team score (45).  Our team was lead by Rachel Howell's Championship performance in the 400m, Hannah Wentland's 2nd place finish in high jump, and our girl's 3rd place finish in the 4x400m.

Our Boy's Team:
With a majority of our boys returning, we had a great year.  With great talent in our area, we were able to crack into the top ten in many events in our area.  Our distance, mid-distance, and field events each developed into some of the strongest we have ever had at CHCA.  At sectionals, our boys finished 3rd, falling behind eventual state champion Lanett and 3rd place state  finisher LaFayette.  Colby Verdin had an outstanding meet, winning the 1600m and 3200m, finishing 2nd in the 800m, and 3rd in Pole Vault (a total of 34 points).  At the 2A State meet, our boys finished 6th overall, our highest finish and team score (43) in team history.  Our team was lead by Colby Verdin's 2nd place finish in the 3200m and 3rd place finish in Pole Vault.

Individual Honors:

Colby Verdin: Mobile Optimist 1A-3A Athlete of the Week (AHSAA State Meet), Mobile Optimist 1A-3A Athlete of the Year.

What can we expect for 2012?

Our Girl's Team:
For the 2012 season, our girls will be competing at the 2A classification in the AHSAA. We will hopefully be returning a majority of our athletes from last season and hope grow upon last season. Our team goal is to qualify as many girls as possible for state while doing our best and improving throughout the season.  We will continue to do all things with excellence and commit to working hard as a team.

Our Boy's Team:
With a senior laden team and the largest amount of experience we have ever had, we hope to compete strongly in our division and at state.  We will depend greatly on our distance, mid-distance, and throws.  As with the girls, we will continue to do all things with excellence and commit to working hard as a team.

Our History!

AHSAA:
In our first three seasons in the AHSAA, we have qualified numerous individuals and relays to the State meet.  We have had three State Champions: Simone Pugh in 2009-100m Dash, 200m Dash*(25.10-State Record Time), Long Jump; Connor Smith in 2010-Discus; and Rachel Howell in 2011-400m Dash. We have had three 2nd place finishers and three 3rd place finishers.  Our highest team finishes are 5th by the girls (2011) and 6th by the boys (2011).

AISA:
In five seasons in AISA, our boy's program were State Runner-Up in 2005, with one State Champ, Lee Steiner 2005-800m*(2:00.6-State Record Time).  Our girls were State Runner-Up in 2007 with two State Champs: Savannah Steiner in 2007-Shot Put and Discus; Simone Pugh in 2007-100m Dash, 200m Dash, and Long Jump.
