Thank you for stopping by to visit our web page. Please take some time to learn more about the cheerleading program here at CHCA.

For starters, we are not a competition team although some of our girls choose to compete with all-star squads in the area. Instead, our squad has the privilege of supporting the mighty Warriors as they perform on the field and on the court. Cheerleaders at Cottage Hill also serve as ambassadors for the school in that they are responsible for promoting school spirit and positive energy at each game they attend. These young women also serve as encouraging examples of Christian character, leadership, and scholastic achievement to name a few.

Requirements for being a Warrior cheerleader are as follows:
• A free and flexible schedule (we are very busy ladies)
• A positive attitude with the smile to match
• Standing back handspring (advanced tumbling skills are a plus)
• Technically correct motions and jumps
• Dance and stunting experience
• Desire to make friends and have fun
• Being a good role model for other students and a positive representative of what CHCA stands for and believes in
• Sign painting skills would be nice too!

What do we do besides cheering on the Warriors?
Glad you asked…

Cheer Camp
Although we have attended various cheer camps across the South, the CHCA varsity squad has achieved the most success at the UCA Cheer Camp held at the University of Alabama each summer.

High Energy Cheer Routines
Our girls are a talented and physically fit bunch; and they have to be with all that is required of them. Two times a year (homecoming and coming home) the varsity squad performs crowd-pleasing routines that include tumbling, high energy music, dance, and elite stunts. Each routine is performed at half time of the corresponding sporting event.

Fundraising
A couple of times a year, we travel to Orange Beach, AL. to bag groceries for tips. We have a cookie dough fundraiser as well. All of the proceeds are emptied directly into our cheerleading fund. Our cheer operations are paid for out of the money we earn. For example, we buy refreshments for the teams to place in their locker rooms during games, goodie bags in player lockers on game days, uniform and cheerleader expenses, gas for road trips, safety mats for stunting and gymnastics…the list goes on. We are a self-sustaining group and work hard to make a difference at school without being a fi nancial burden.

Cheer Mentoring
The varsity squad serves as role models and mentors for younger generations of Warrior cheerleaders. At the camps we put on, future or potential cheerleaders come to us for their cheer education. We teach them proper motions, dance techniques, how to jump, how to have and show spirit, etc. Above all though, we strive to have a good time. This is accomplished by holding friendly competitions for the young campers such as, dance diva (best dancer), jumping queen (best jumps or toe touch), and others.

Scholarships and College Athletics
Our cheerleading program has produced the most college athletes out of any other athletic team at the school. This means scholarship money; and who doesn’t like a little help when it comes to paying college tuition? Our girls have earned cheerleading scholarships to the University of Mobile, the University of Southern Mississippi, and the University of South Alabama.

Spiritual Leadership
Thanks to the spiritual leadership of the 2008 varsity squad, we are proud to have hosted the first annual “Pray CHCA”. This is a school wide, week long event hosted by the cheerleaders that asked parents, athletes, and students to come up to the high school and pray for their fellow classmates, teachers, administration, and their generation as a whole. Students, coaches, parents, and teachers had the opportunity to walk around the school and throughout the classrooms praying fervently for change and for revival to happen in our midst. Cottage Hill Christian Academy is a college preparatory school, and that doesn’t mean focusing on scholastics alone. Additionally, we are preparing them to take on the challenge of higher education academically, spiritually, physically, mentally, socially, and athletically. Our well-rounded groups of girls fully embody these goals.
