  • Accounting gives students a thorough background in the basic accounting procedures used to operate a business. The accounting procedures presented serve as a sound background for employment in office jobs and preparation for business courses in college.



    ACT Prep



    Communications is a one-semester course taught to seniors. This course includes principles of communication as well as instruction in practical communication skills such as public speaking, job interviews, personal introductions, listening, and responding.



    Computer Applications is a year long course that provides useful instruction in the history of computers and the Internet, basic computer and keyboarding skills, word processing, basic and advanced spreadsheet skills, advanced with processing and presentations. Emphasis is placed on learning skills needed to solve “real world” business problems productively.



    Family Consumer Studies



    Fine Arts includes classes in piano, music appreciation, journalism, marching band, praise band, and New Life ensemble. More Information.



    Health Education focuses on the correlation between our body being the temple of God and learning how to manage our body through a wellness approach. The health program will include such topics as mental health, safety and emergency care, nutrition, personal health, disease control, and physical fitness.



    Journalism



    Physical Conditioning develops lifetime attitudes regarding physical activities. The program is a sequence of experi ences in a variety of activities that will challenge all ability levels. Emphasis is given to lifetime fitness and the understand ing that one's lifestyle has a direct effect on one's quality of life.



    Spanish I is an entry level course that provides ample materials to allow flexibility in concentrated learning skills. There is a focus on the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills throughout all phases of instruction. The teacher models new vocabulary, dialogues, structure and pronunciation. The teacher also shares knowledge of Spanish culture, history, and geography. Speaking skills are developed simultaneously with the listening component. Required for Honors Diploma candidates.

    Spanish II reinforces the components learned in Spanish I, while providing new materials to challenge the student’s knowledge of the language. There is a focus on the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills throughout all phases of instruction. The teacher also shares knowledge of Spanish culture, history, and geography. Required for Honors Diploma candidates.

    Spanish III is a weighted, in-depth course for students that have demonstrated a love, interest, and proficiency in the Spanish language. It exposes the students to Latin-American literary forms, geography, culture, and socioeconomic issues. The students are encouraged to think critically and are challenged to expand their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a relaxed but concentrated classroom environment.

    Spanish IV is a weighted course for students that desire to expand their Spanish proficiency to a higher level of reading, writing and orally communicating. This program will expand to include community-based arts, economics and social activities.



    Student Leadership



    Yearbook emphasizes the study of yearbook publication. Critical thinking, writing, and planning skills will be developed. Computer, photography and journalistic skills will be taught through practical application. Creativity and ethics will be essential components as well. Yearbook is a very demanding course in respect to quality of work, ability to meet deadlines, and time commitment. Students may be required to go out to the public to sell a predetermined number of ads for pages in the yearbook and may also have to participate in additional fund raisers as deemed necessary. Students enrolled in the class must be willing to dedicate their time, during school, after school, and on some weekends, to the completion of this book.
