CHCA Church Campus
The CHCA Church Campus computer lab is equipped with 26 networked computers using WINXP (all
with internet access), black/white and color laser printers,
photo printer, projector, digital camera, video camera, and
scanner.
Classes include 20 minute/once a week classes for students in K3 and K4,
30 minute/once a week classes for students in K5, and
45 minute/once a week classes for students
in
grades
1-5. A middle school computer class is also offered to students in grades 6-8 as an elective.
All elementary and middle school classrooms are equipped with at least 2 student computers where students can take Accelerated Reading/Star Reading tests, conduct research, use a word processor, spreadsheet, or presentation software.
Preschool Computer for grades K3-K4 teaches the students the basic components of the computer. Most of the year for K3 students is spent mastering the correct placement of the hand on the mouse. They accomplish this by using MSPaint to paint color sheets that have been saved on the network. To reinforce what they learned in K3, K4 students start the year by painting the pictures in MSPaint. Then they move on to learning to use basic tools in the internet browser by playing bookmarked learning games found on the web.
Elementary Computer for grades K5-5th uses the following applications: word processing, presentation,
spreadsheet, graphics, clipart, math
and language reinforcement
software, keyboarding,
phonics based typing software, and SAT preparation software.
Lab lessons integrate technology with grade level curriculum by
incorporating the use of the internet while learning
important application skills using
the programs, Microsoft Office 2007 and Student
Writing Center.
The computer lab uses the phonics based typing program, Read,
Write, & Type! to teach keyboarding skills to the 2nd grade students. For reinforcement in keyboarding skills, the lab uses Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing for 3rd to 8th graders.
Middle School Computer is an elective class for grades 6th-8th. This course teaches the students how to use the computers
effectively so they might excel in our advanced technological society.
This class focuses on learning technology skills in various computer applications including Microsoft Office 2007 for word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, email, and desktop publishing; Mavis Beacon for keyboarding; Movie Makerfor video editing; and Adobe Photoshop Elements for photo editing.
